12 hour sci-fi marathon at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre this weekend…

It starts at noon on this Saturday, May 9th. The slate is The Incredible Shrinking Man, War of the Worlds (the good one), Planet of the Apes (the good one), 2001 A Space Odyssey, Brother from Another Planet, Aliens, and The Fly (the better one).

Gary Lockwood of 2001 and the original Star Trek pilot will be there in person for a Q&A session.

Wow. If Music Box was a Cinerama style theater I’d be making me a 12 hour drive for 2001 projected and Gary Lockwood to boot.

Hey, I bought Lockwood’s autobiography when he attended a convention. There’s a lot of interesting stuff in that — Lockwood had met Neil Armstrong somewhere, and states they patterened Bowman in 2001 after him.

Ha! A couple of years back our local “retro” cinema played 2001 (in 70mm), which in itself is not that unusual (yay!) but we got both Lockwood AND Dullea. A most cool evening was had ….

I asked Dullea if he had been to Australia often and he said the last time he was here was also for a 2001 presentation … at its Australian debut!
