Monster of the Day #3478

Happy Wednesday, everyone. Boy, Matheson really did a lot of great work.

Watch Party this Friday.

  • Matheson was a beast. His stuff is among the best in the genres.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Of course, I have to wonder where he got those tiny clothes…

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

The dryer. I hate when that happens, but it could come in handy someday.

  • Gamera977

I'm just glad he had them, not sure I want to see 'The Amazing Nekkid Man'…

  • Eric Hinkle

That he did. Have you ever read his short horror story 'Faces', which is also sometimes called 'Day of Judgement'? It creeped me out as few other horror stories ever have, and in about five pages or so.

  • Ken_Begg

It's M. Night Shyamalan's Incredible Shrinking Man. In a mind-blowing twist, it turns out the rest of the world has actually just been getting bigger.

  • Ken_Begg

And, of course, wrote many of the greatest episodes of Twilight Zone. And the novel I Am Legend. And the screenplays for many of the Corman Poe films. And the short story and screenplay for the Spielberg TV movie Duel. And the screenplay for The Devil Rides Out. And…lots of stuff.

  • Eric Hinkle

Sadly, Matheson seems to be turning into one of the 'Great Forgottens', much like Henry Kuttner or Poul Anderson before him.

  • Ken_Begg

Well, nobody reads anymore. And no wonder; look at what gets nominated for the Hugos these days.

  • Oh yeah. First time was in my local library, in among the books. Not to say it left an impression, or anything.

  • Of course Matheson's greatest contribution to film was helping bring Jaws 3 to the screen. Mustn't forget that!

(Seriously, though, Hell House is the best.)

  • I try real hard not to.
