Monster of the Day #3459

Back home, back to work, etc. Visiting GalaxyJane and Fuzzball and we all drove up to Monster Bash in Pittsburgh. I’ve had that on my list for well over 20 years now, and it was authentically great. Watched lots of old movies, heard some great knowledgeable talks and listened to some great guests, such as Victoria Price (Vincent’s daughter), Jessica Rains (Claude’s daughter) and Elizabeth Shepherd, who starred opposite Price in Tomb of Ligeia. It was especially nice because the guest often had to really stick with it to attend given the craziness with flights this weekend.

A very fun time, and it was terrific to be with all these people who loved the same things we do in the same ways. If you’ve ever considered attending, I don’t think you’d be disappointed. And hey, Caroline Munro will be at the November con.

Watch Party on Friday.

    Welcome back.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, glad you had a good time and got home safely. I guess I should give it a whirl, it's like a seven hour drive for me.

  • Gamera977

I am embarrassed once again. The only bad movie I watched over the weekend was 'Five Nights at Freddie's'. Which wasn't bad. It's like 'Cocaine Bear' where people tell you it's a awful film but it's competent. Not exactly good but not horrible either.

On the other hand as I said I'd borrowed a friend's Studio Ghibli collection. I also watched 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky' and 'Kikki's Delivery Service' which I loved.

I still don't like anime but I love the Ghibli stuff, maybe that doesn't make a great deal of sense but that's how I roll it seems.

  • My only disappointment was that Tom Savini was unable to make it (eye surgery). But I understand he is there often due to living in the Pittburgh area.

Otherwise it was a joy to be there, even with..ugh..Ken.

  • It would be fun to meet up in meatspace if you ever decide to go. We definitely think we will go again some time.

  • Eric Hinkle

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip. Maybe you can make it back again sometime.

And hey, unlike Pittsburgh's AnthroCon I'm guessing nobody got put to the sword at this one.

I am way over on the left coast so for now you all remain more of my invisible friends.

  • Ken_Begg

There's always Chicago and Texas. Still a trip, but closer than Pittsburgh, anyway.

  • Ken_Begg

    Great movies are great movies.

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

Yes, and if we are forced to retire to Idaho, it will be even closer.

  • Ken_Begg

Ha, well, hopefully if you relocate it won't be because you were forced to.

Also I know what you mean. When I can retire in 10 years or so (fingers crossed), I doubt I will be able to stay in Illinois.
