Monster of the Day #3545

Man, that’s the stuff right there. Give AI a few more years and somebody’s going to animate these stories and make themselves a billion dollars.

Is the belt to suggest how the Skellington carries his knife? That’s some attention to detail right there.

Last few blue-rays I've seen included "You're Telling me," "The Man on the Flying Trapeze," and "You Can't Cheat an Honest Man." Not sure what could tie all those together, though.

Flying Trapeze might be Fields' best somewhat obscure movie. There's some great stuff in there.

All the year's I was growing up, into my '30s, local Channel WGN would alternate Marx Brothers and WC Fields movies each New Year's Eve. It was a great tradition.

I think he just wants to give her a navel.

It's hard to think of a bad Fields movie. Flying Trapeze is great, but it's such an odd movie in his oeuvre. Generally, in his domestic films he grovels before his wife, but his rebellious streak remains, which allows him to quietly subvert every situation he's in. Here, he's a frail weed, standing up for his awful in-laws against his daughter (who is the only one who stands up for him). He triumphs in the end, of course, but it's so odd seeing him so passive.

Variations on a theme, I assume, but still some killer stuff in there.

Yeah, Fields was great. I really need to get around to watching Million Dollar Legs.

I guess there's not much point of wearing trousers if you're a skelly so I guess using it to hold your knife works.
Though I think I'd just carry it in my teeth like a pirate…
