Monster of the Day #3517

1958 saw Corman expanding his range a bit, to sometimes dubious results. Aside from his Viking epic he made Teenage Caveman, with the weirdly suave Robert Vaughn (shades of George Hamilton playing Evel Kneivel) at 26 playing the titular hero. The film has a Rod Serling twist at the end.

Was there a (presumably stock footage) dinosaur in the film? I don’t remember, frankly. The monster suit is in there, though.

  • Oh look it’s the Boy from UNCLE

I don’t remember a giant dinosaur, but that lady’s swimsuit sure looks like it was painted on later.

I wonder who does his hair?

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

oh, she does have a suit.

Such a good twist a certain twisty modern filmmaker “barrowed” it.

    Tonight’s 4K feature was…OK, I BOUGHT the BOX SET…DON’T JUDGE ME.
It was “Batman Forever.” The film that took the Batman films from the Gothic Burton films into the Batman 60’s TV show aesthetic. It’s colorful and kinetic, has some good but odd looking stunts, and has some of the worst dialogue ever. (C’mon, Ahnold’s puns were at least groan-worthy in the right way.)
But it’s not a good film in any way. Carrey and Jones eat the scenery by the handful (and reportedly hated each other). Kidman was stiff, and Kilmer seems miscast. O’Donnell brings a bit of energy, but it’s pretty clear why this film isn’t much liked by anyone. It’s not sober like “Batman Returns” and it’s not camp like “Batman and Robin.” It’s just kind of a thing that has to be climbed to go from one hill to the other.

    Uhhhh….I’m judging you.

TWENTY-SIX!?!!?! I swear Vaughn looked about forty in this movie. Then again to me he always looked about 40-50.

He’s like John Carridine. Carridine was never young as far as I know, Even in the ’50s he looks about 60.

  • Ed Asner in EL DORADO was in his late 30s, but looked like he was in his 50s.
