Monster of the Day #3493

By the time we got organized, we didn’t have much movie watching time on Friday, April 5th. The evening was devoted to a bunch of us taking GalaxyJane to The Bavarian Grill for her (slightly early) birthday. For the record, I abandoned my original order when I saw they had giant soft pretzels available. By the time I killed 70% of one of those, I only had room, barely, for a rather large apple strudel. So…Dinner of Champions right there.

Anyway, Sandy took the reigns on our afternoon viewing. We watch the 1938 Soviet historical epic Alexander Nevsky, about an olde time Russian hero who fought off German knights who invaded the Motherland. Hmm, I think they were trying to suggest something, but I can’t put my finger on it.  I don’t remember much of this, so I probably fell asleep during much of it. Hey, jet lag.

Then we watched (groan) Bruno Mattai’s The Tomb (2006), seen above. It’s basically a slasher movie version of the Stephen Sommers The Mummy. Hey, they had to rip off something, it was a Bruno Mattai film. This is *not* my favorite period for Mattai, who was generally making shot on video films for Italian TV. The tomb sets were pretty elaborate, though, suggesting they were left over from some other project.

The next day…Tween Fest!

Kind of sad when you see a very good aspect of a certain film, from a certain film-maker, and your automatic assumption is “It was left over from a better film.”

    Sad, maybe. But accurate.

  • The amount of Horror irradiating from that capture is off the charts! By which I mean it never got ON the charts in the first place.
