Monster of the Day #3471

So having gotten to the Plan 9 slot it was time to kick off the horror block. We started with Demonic Toys, one of several “small menace” series run by Charles Band’s Full Moon Productions: Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Dollman, Dolls, etc. I’ve said before that Band was the Roger Corman of the 80s and 90s; cranking out basically surprisingly decent if not spectacular cheapies. So this was fine, but it kicked off a long run of much too similar films. That’s partly on the people who sponsor, including some of the older ones like me. People, you have to sponsor OLDER MOVIES. C’mon, now.

Do I Own on Blu Ray: No, nor DVD. We’re entering a run of films that I’m not really that interested in.

I am a bit embarrassed that I’ve seen none of these films. Especially this one being one of BgBear’s most famous roles.
I am a big fan of Band’s though ‘Shadow Zone’ and have it on Blu-ray.

DEMONIC TOYS was my first Full Moon flick, decades ago. As remembered by those of us old enough to do so, the Full Moon movies were direct-to-video, premiering on the rental shelf on VHS, and contained a good half hour of “VideoZone” features after the movie — behind-the-scenes bits on this and other Full Moon flicks, trailers, etc.

And I said, “The movie ain’t great, but the brand marketing is STELLAR.”

We all got used to that kind of thing with DVDs, but Band cannily used it to build brand loyalty in the VHS days.

  • I’ve seen Demonic Toys, but that’s all I can say about it. I don’t remember any of it. I don’t remember most Full Moon movies, either, which probably says something

I do not think I can open my mouth that much. I always have trouble at the dentist when they work on back teeth.

So they used a stunt double in your attack scenes? 😛
