Godzilla Minus One to be released in B&W version….

I’m not sure if this will get over here–unless they also do a dub, maybe?–but Toho in Japan will be releasing a black & white version of Godzilla Minus One. They won’t just turn off the color, but will recut it and redo the lighting and so forth. Godzilla should highlight quite a lot differently in black and white, and I would definitely see this if it got here.

Speaking of, for anyone who owns Nightmare Before Christmas and is planning to watch it this weekend, try turning the color off. It really makes the details on the props pop a lot, and suits the film. It’s a pretty great alternative way to experience that classic movie.

  • Apropos of nothing, while I don’t particularly love Nightmare (more specifically, I’m rather indifferent to Tim Burton in general), It was the movie Jamie and I saw on our first date. Although what clenched the deal was me dragging him out of bed at 2 AM one night for a (then rare) airing of Plan 9 and he not only didn’t murder me then and there, but actually seemed to enjoy the experience. I figured that made him a rare enough bird to keep around.

Truly, I have never heard a more romantic tale.

  • Look, after 30 years, I figure it was at least as good a way to pick a spouse as however normal people do it.

Yeah, I feel tears coming to my eyes. If you show him ‘Plan 9’ and he doesn’t bolt for the door he’s a keeper…

This sounds really cool! I think I’ll have to pick up both versions.

I looked the other day for a DVD/Blu-Ray release date and nothing has been scheduled. The site was guessing sometime next autumn though.

If they profess a fondness for MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE, however, I’d suggest running for your life.

Yes, I would expect we’re basically talking about a Blu Ray release sometime before Christmas 2024. If it takes longer to get the Blu Ray but it’s includes (for instance) that B&W cut, that would be fine for me.

I’m sure the movie will also be available on one of the streaming services, as well as for digital rental on Amazon, etc.
