    I watched some stupid stuff (aside from the watch party). To be clear, I finished the Resident Evil film series (in gorgeous 4k) and while all of them are dumb (and apparently designed by committee to be dumber), the 6th one I found really dull. We’ve seen all this.

    Anyway, they make me sad for one reason: Milla Jovovich. Her role in The Fifth Element was so fun and lovable. And she has none of that in the RE movies. Granted that wouldn’t have worked, but still. I bet if you told some one “Hey the actress who played Alice in the RE movies was also Leeloo in The Fifth Element” they’d say “No way, that’s not possible.” And maybe it isn’t.

    I watched ‘What Waits Below’ and ‘Hanger 18’ . Watched them about thirty years ago and haven’t seen them till I found them on YouTube recently.

    I went to a theater out in Fort Worth that played very lovely, subtitled Japanese versions of Mothra vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Megalon (which I’m sure most would consider my “something stupid”). There were a few vendors of various Godzilla merch upstairs, and they also had an in-person interview/Q&A with John Yurcaba IV, who did some work on IDW’s Godzilla line, and Bob Eggleton, whose Godzilla paintings you’ve probably seen. Hopefully this little gathering will become a yearly tradition, as it was a grand time. Every monster appearance got applause, as did the Peanuts (which made my heart happy), but the biggest applause went to, of course, Godzilla dropkicking Megalon. Because of course it did.

    It was! I’d never seen the Japanese version of Megalon. To my surprise, they actually do a better version of covering Jet Jaguar going rogue in the dubbed version: “I built the ability to go autonomous in times of danger into him” versus “Iunno because reasons LOL.” Seriously, his creator is like, “I have no idea what’s happening right now,” and they all just shrug and go about their business like “NAH IT’LL BE FINE.” Although both versions just kind of gloss over his getting kaiju-sized like “Who knows?”

    I love that movie so much.
