Monster of the Day #3456

How did I miss yesterday? Yeesh.

Anyway, just in case I was suggesting otherwise, The Spider was no one trick pony. Today…robots! Glorious ’30s robots.

Watch Party this Friday.

If you’ve never watched “Return of the Killer Shrews” you are a lucky person indeed.

It might compete with the worst film I ever watched to the end, but that will always be “Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?”

On the bright side I received a nice note from James Best’s widow when she mailed my copy, so there is that.

Blow torches only work against Venusians.

  • It’s nice that that Giant is helping the Spider fight the Robots by pulling out the Robots’ plugs.

That is one clunky sentence, that is.

  • kgb_san_diego

    Cybermen before Dr. Who! :-)

  • Eric Hinkle

That comparison’s closer than you think. These aren’t robots in the story, they’re oversized suits of early power armor built by a mad scientist so his army of gangsters can loot the city. It can be found in a collection of Spider stories from Baen Books that may still be available.

  • Eric Hinkle

Well, not robots, more like gangsters in power armor. But it’s a great story!

  • Gamera977

Wow power armour before ‘Starship Troopers!!!!’

  • Eric Hinkle

I believe they did something similar in a 1930’s Lensmen story by Doc Smith too.

  • Gamera977

I’ve read a few of the ‘Lensmen’ stories but I need to get around to reading them all.
