Monster of the Day #3446

OK, it’s 1958. You’re the typical 10 year old boy being dropped off at the Saturday matinee, so that your mom can have you out of her hair for three or four hours. You’re a savvy vet already; you know the movies are never as good as the poster makes them work. Still, if even half these monsters actually appear on screen…

Then the movie starts, and the movie is better than the poster. Not only are all the monsters on the poster in the movie, they are all prominently featured. Not brief cameos as you might have expected. Ray Harryhausen has found his genre, and you’re there to see it happen.

This…this is happiness.*

(Also, you sneer when one of your friends say it, but man, that princess is pretty.)

    Cosign everything Ken said.

  • This is a great little flick.

Granted, this particular poster is from the 70’s re-release…

When I was a kid back in the 70’s I lived for the days when the local stations showed either Harryhausen or Toho films on afternoon TV.
