Monster of the Day #3358

Oops, posted this early. Oh, well.

Bert I Gordon immediately followed up Beginning of the End with The Cyclops, which in retrospect looks like a run up for both The Amazing Colossal Man and, even more so, it’s sequel. He also continued to work with solid, if often down on their luck, name actors like Lon Chaney Jr and Gloria Talbot. Gordon’s trademark embiggening effects are still pretty weak, with many shots of the various beasties looking transparent. Even so, the make-up for the titular creature is authentically nightmarish.

This was actually his second film, although his third release.

that doesn’t surprise me, especially since it’s less ambitious than Beginning of the End. However, I’ll stick with films by release, since that’s how the public received them. Still, that’s great context. Thanks, Rock!

It’s a good demonstration of how the business works, too, I think.

I always felt the line “Glenn was sixty feet tall!” was so darn funny. Like there was another giant person he could be confused with. Then I saw “The Cyclops” and thought OK, Joyce maybe is not that dumb. Apparently radioactive of various sizes giants are all around the southwest.

Well, when you make six movies in two years…

It is a great line. I still prefer Vincent Price saying “The murderous brain of a fly!”
