The Power of Hollywood today….

So Microsoft had a little quiz this morning. You were supposed to pick out the five films among the following list that Emma Watson appeared in:

Perks of Being a Wallflower
Beauty and the Beast
The Bling Ring
Victor Frankenstein
Kill Your Darlings
Imperium
This Is the End
Colonia

I honestly was not aware of a single one of those films. Anybody?

I (unfortunately) saw the live action Beauty and the Beast, and have vaguely HEARD of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring, but not the rest. And I listen to a weekly general movie podcast.

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

    nope

  • I’ve seen Beauty and the Beast and I saw the trailer in The Perks of Being a Wallflower years ago. I read about her against-type cameo in This is the End at REEL OPINIONS (the owner of the site was a regular contributor to the BMMB).

  • The Rev.

This is the End was the apocalypse movie that came out in 2013 about the same time as The World’s End, which was the last of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. The only thing I remember from the trailer for it was Emma Watson mugging the main characters with a baseball bat. I recall Victor Frankenstein only because James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe were in it, which seemed like a dynamite combo, but I guess the results were mixed at best if the reviews are anything to go by. And I’m aware of all the live-action remakes Disney is doing but haven’t watched a one because I why would I? I’m told the Mulan one’s pretty good but the original is possibly my favorite Disney film so I can only assume I’d find it a disappointment. Nothing else rings a bell.

  • Just three of them: Beauty and the Beast, Victor Frankenstein, and This Is the End. AKA the films that are in the Genres I’m Interested in.

  • Gamera977

I’ve heard her name but I wouldn’t know her from Eve.

I think one of the last bankable film stars was Will Smith. And now he’s pretty much a laughingstock. Seems so for pretty much all of Hollywood. I think I’ve said here before I’d rather watch any Korean or Chinese film over Hollywood’s products. They’re a heck of a lot more entertaining.

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has a pretty good track record. A few bombs–Baywatch and Skyscraper–but he’s holding up fairly well.

  • Rock Baker

Somewhat concerned only because “Colonia” is the name of a fictional country in upcoming issues of my comic book. I chose the word as a derivative of the word “colony” but now I hate to think people might think I’m making reference to a movie I’ve never heard of.

  • I’ve heard of Perks and TEOTW, but have seen neither. I’d probably sit through the latter if it turned up while I was randomly doing something else, but that’s about as far as that goes. Actually it took me a bit to even remember who Emma Watson is, and I was a fan of the Harry Potter flicks.

  • As an old school Disaster Movie mega-fan, I was so bummed by how badly Skyscraper blew it.

  • Keanu Reeves still rates I think. John Wick has been very good for him.

  • Gamera977

Johnson and Reeves are good. I haven’t seen that many of their movies though. Smith was the last actor that I pretty much saw everything he was in for a couple of years there. So I guess I sorta think of him as the last big star- at least for me anyway.

  • Eric Hinkle

The only thing I really know about the live-action Mulan is the infamous spot in the credits where Disney thanked the staff and officials of a Chinese concentration camp for their support in making the movie.

  • Eric Hinkle

I look at that list, and aside from Beauty and the Beast I find myself thinking, “Huh?”

  • casey01

I’ve seen Kill Your Darlings, but until I just went to IMDB, I couldn’t have told you the name of one cast member.

  • Ken_Begg

Hard to come up with anything completely original, Rock. There’s a lot of stuff out there. Maybe Colonna for Jerry Colonna?

  • Reeves has a lot of good karma points for his behavior offscreen, but I don’t think it completely translates into box office stardom at the moment. The 47 Ronin and the recent Matrix movie were big disappointments, although the John Wick movies are obviously doing well and serving as a standard for action movies.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I’ve heard of a number of them, but have seen exactly none of them.

  • Rock Baker

That name would actually fit the aesthetic of the comic book better…

  • Ken_Begg

Man, when we all die there will be nobody left who remembers Jerry Colonna.

  • Rock Baker

Nonsense. As long as classic cartoons remain available, Jerry will be in public view!
