Ken is happy (Warning: Anime content)….

Although not among the very best isekai (transported to another world) animes, Overlord is right up at the top of the second tier, I think. And if not the best one, it’s nonetheless my favorite. Many younger anime fans love it but heavily criticize the sometimes jenky CGI. Although I am known as a cranky sourpuss on CGI, that’s mostly in films. I’ll admit the CGI generally doesn’t measure up to Overlord’s hand drawn animation. However, as you guys are aware, impeccable special effects are now my number one priority in my media. Overlord’s brilliant world building alone overwhelms any slight qualms I might have about some of it’s GCI. (I will admit the CGI can undercut some of the ‘bigger’ moments, but again, not my priority with the show.)

Anyway, the previously announced fourth season of Overlord has finally been confirmed for a 2022 release. I’m assuming it will come out in either the July or September seasons, I would think the latter. However, time runs swiftly and those dates are not really that far in the offing. Plus after the season is offer they will be releasing an Overlord movie, which I really hope makes it over here theatrically, even if just for a day. Surely the huge success of the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie will help make that happen.

If I were to suggest one anime to non-anime watchers–well, it would probably be Demon Slayer, as that’s proved itself with it’s massive success. Right on its heels would be Overlord, though. A ‘season’ of the show is only 12 episodes, so we’re taking like four hours a season. Not a hard watch to catch up on. Sadly, only season 1 is still available on Hulu–although that would certainly give you a taste of what the show’s like. Again, you could easily binge the show in a weekend, and it’s on both Funimation and Cruchyroll, both of which offer free trial periods long enough to get that job done.

Nice to see Skeletor is still getting work.

  • Funnily enough, Skeletor actually has two shows out now. Old bag of bones has some life to him yet.

  • I actually have both the anime and the original light novel, because of course I do. Haven’t finished either one, though it ain’t cause I’m not interested. Just something shiny caught my interest. Was it car keys? Probably car keys. Anyways, I liked what I saw.

I also own all the currently translated volumes of the light novels; aside from the paperback editions of Bofuri, they’re the only light novels/mange I own. However, I’m really an Overlord anime guy, so I haven’t read ahead in the books past where the third season ended. They are pretty books, though, and look nice lined up on the shelf.

Skeletor is an animated version of Karloff or Christopher Lee. Class acts never go out of style.

Over the past couple of years Ken’s shown me quite a bit of anime. Quite a few I really enjoyed (“Bofuri,” “Konosuba,” “MIss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” among others), but “Overlord” remains my favorite of them. (Also “Attack on Titan,” but that one he talked up on the site before he had any chance to show it to me, and I watched it on my own.) Luckily he was okay with rewatching the first three seasons because I could not stop watching it once it started. I am anxiously awaiting the fourth season, and if you have a chance, I’m echoing Ken’s recommendation for it.
