Monster of the Day #3314

If there’s one thing the world’s been crying for (#2 would be a complete cure for Covid), it would be a good release of Yeti Giant of the 20th Century. Past releases looked like they were taken from VHS rips. Now with a reasonable amount of digital clarity, we can finally accurately and fairly judge that the special effects are indeed awful. Sadly, there are no extras–although since most of the other hundreds of Blu Rays I’ve bought this year have hours and hours of extras*, perhaps I shouldn’t complain.

(*For example: After spending over $500 over the years buying copies of the Kolchak TV series–not to mention the two films–I of course also bought the recent Kino Lorber Blu Ray set. Let’s say I actually watch that. 21 episodes, each with a commentary. So that’s got to be like 35 hours or more of viewing right there. There’s probably more stuff than that, but man, that’s enough, isn’t it? Also the new Night of the Demon Blu Ray had so many extras on it I burst out laughing when I saw the list of them on the back.)

Well, it is the second best Yeti film ever after ‘The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas’.

Of course those are the only two Yeti films I can name.

(As opposed to Sasquatch films which seem a dime a dozen.) .

Have you seen Suburban Sasquatch? It really bad and the CGI is terrible.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Was that the one written by Nigel Kneale? That one was really good.

Now that I think about it there’s ‘Terror in the Midnight Sun’. Which puts ‘Yeti: Giant of the 20th Century’ back to third place.

  • Gamera977

Nope, but as Ken put it pretty much any Sasquatch movie is going to be awful.

  • Eric Hinkle

Yes. It’s an amazing piece of work.

I watched it a while back, mostly because Red Letter Media talked it up so much. I’m not saying there weren’t some hilarious parts, but there were also long stretches of boredom, and it’s way longer than it needs to be. It definitely needs to be a group watch to get through those parts that drag.

I also need to see Exists at some point; my understanding is that it’s an actual good Bigfoot movie.

    Sandy interviews Ken on YouTube.

  • Gamera977

That was awesome!!! I hope Ken got to keep the F3 fez..

And I want my own Jabootu miniature!!! Is there anyway to get one without buying a couple hundred dollar game?

  • Ken_Begg

I’m pretty sure individual figures are for sale on the Petersen Games store.

  • Gamera977

Cool, thanks will give it a look!

  • Gamera977

    Thanks! Found it last night.

I wonder if I could make a little Chicago Cubs hat for him???
