Monster of the Day #3243

Yay, Friday!

Amazon Prime has Pumpkinhead. Man, that’s a good little film. And you know I love me my Lance Henriksen. One of Stan Winston’s great designs, and one of the last monsters that’s human-looking enough to promote at least some audience empathy. I love especially the way the movie captures a real folklore film, right up there with All That Money Can Buy.

If you want a great film to watch that doesn’t fall into our regular wheelhouse, watch the fantastic crime film The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, with Walter Mattau and Robert Shaw. Does anyone else have some favorites to suggest on Prime?

Cool! I didn’t know they had ‘Punk’nhead’, only seen it once but I liked it. Will give it a go, thanks!

And ‘Pelham’ I watched part of it years ago but didn’t get to see the whole thing, will be checking it out too!

Last really good movies I watched on Prime were Korean. ‘Among the Gods: The Two Worlds’ is about a firefighter who is escorted though the Buddhist Hell by three advocates. A little heavy on the CGI but a fun movie with lots of twists and turns. Unfortunately it’s off Prime now but available for rental for four bucks.

And ‘He Is My Brother’ or ‘He’s My Brother’ or something like that. I can’t find it now. Is it the Mandala Effect and I just imaged it? Anyway when their father dies two Korean brothers are put up for adaption. The elder is picked up by an American couple and raised in the States and becomes a minister. The younger eventually leaves the orphanage and grows up in poverty becoming a shaman. So now a Korean TV show brings the two back together after not seeing each other after forty or so years. Sparks fly as they set off to find their mom. Wish I could find the dang thing, it’s funny, sweet, and heartwarming all at the same time.

Oddly enough, PUMPKINHEAD was on Prime last year… and then left September 30. Seriously, Amazon? No PUMPKINHEAD for Halloween? WTF?
