Monster of the Day #3224

Well, Tuesday was the day I left Dallas. We got in a showing of Mako Jaws of Death off the recent William Grefe box set He Came from the Swamp. I’d never seen it, so it was good to check it off. Basically it was Willard Meets Jaws, with a typically intense lead performance by Richard Jaeckel.  Then it was off to O’Hare, more or less.

Anyway, Mako isn’t really a monster film, so here’s the Belgian poster for It Came from Beneath the Sea. A few foreign words, and…classy! Meanwhile, Deadly Mantis was Panique aux USA. Take that, quintipus!

Actually, this probably isn’t too far off the mark in what San Francisco is like right now.  Call out the poop patrols!

Argh, computer issues. Thumbnail later. Off to work. Have a great day, everyone!

    This one was always fun.

Too bad I couldn’t stick around for Tuesday. I’ve wanted to see Mako for a while, but the dead sharks put me off. Might have been easier to tolerate in sympathetic company.

I watched ‘Mako’ on Amazon Prime a year or two ago. Other than the tight budget I thought it was a pretty decent film. Jaeckel was by far the best part of the movie.

Great Harryhausen effects (obviously), but the *cough* romantic triangle is deadly. Gee, who will she end up with? Even Kenneth Tobey couldn’t do much for the people scenes. (I love his wry “can you believe that crap?” expression after he saves his halfhearted rival from the Quintipus, though.)

  • God I love this movie. Faith Domergue!

I’m glad they short-circuited the romantic triangle in Earth vs The Flying Saucers…using just one line, too.
