Italian Spiderman!!!!

Part 5

Part 6

It’s easy to just laugh at these, but really, the are extraordinarily well made. I’ve seen hundreds of this types of parodies–there’s a whole cottage industry for zero-budget sci-fi spoofs on DVD these days–but I’ve NEVER seen anything as note-perfect as this stuff. Again, one can only hope that after the serial is done it comes out on DVD.

  • WallyBallou

Wow! That’s funny. You’re right, they did a terrific job. Almost Pink Five quality.

  • Salty

Killer penguins made me crack up. “I summon penguini !!!”, is my favorite new catch phrase.

  • It’s funnier in Italian, however.

  • It beats the Lost Skeleton, the acting there was still too good for the movies they were spoofing. This is perfect, just as painful as the real thing.

Needs a bit more senseless gore and nudity though to truly fit the Italian mold. Maybe nudity isn’t essential, but even the most tame Italian rip off seems to throw in some gore, whether it fits or not.

The hallucination with nonsensical stock footage reminded me of all the nonsensical cut scenes in Argento’s Inferno. In fact I half expected to see Argento’s “cat eating a mouse”” and “cutting out paper dolls” footage in there somewhere.

Also, aren’t all Italian films required to have Laura Gemser or Ian McCulloch? Or at least Fred Williamson or John Saxon? Speaking of which, where are the slumming American stars past their prime? Well, I suppose microbudgets do have to skip some of the essentials, though wondering which retired star would humiliate himself in a cameo was part of the fun of Italian films.

  • On an unrelated note, the trailer for the Keanu version of The Day the Earth Stood Still is online. It’s…not looking so good.
