Monster of the Day #3088

There was a period when I was looking around at all my thousands of DVDs (and smattering of Blu Rays) and would think, “Man, if I had known streaming was coming, I could have saved a lot of money.” But again I am brought face to face with the fact that stuff on streaming often disappears. Since I basically mostly watch anime now, I have a lot of weird stuff on my “watch later” lists on Amazon Prime, etc. After featuring Bride with White Hair yesterday, I thought I’d mention the fun looking Asian flicks Black Magic and Black Magic 2, available on Prime. Well, not any more, as it turns out. So if you want to watch Atomic Submarine on Prime, you might want to get to it. Maybe it will be there a year (or a week) from now, but maybe it won’t, either. If you have that old Criterion set with it, though, you’re golden forever.

Yeah, a DVD is forever (at least until DVD rot sets in). It’s also not subject to politically correct censoring.

  • On that particular subject, Latitude Zero and Atragon are on Prime right now.

  • It’s also YOURS. You Own it. Your Precious…….

I finally got around to picking up a copy of ‘Gone With The Wind’ and there is a warning sticker on the cellophane…. (sigh). At least a I got a copy before any attempt to ban the film.

  • I’ve actually watched “Birth of a Nation” (which I would wager a lot of those who scream about it’s racism *haven’t*), and the racism in it is so blatantly obvious as to be laughable. It’s almost comic in its heavy-handedness.

I swear I didn’t see this before I posted today’s MotD. Dagora and Yog (aka Space Amoeba).

Which is why I still buy CDs and DVDs of music and movies I’m interested in.

I’ve seen several people online recommending that you get physical copies of books whenever possible to avoid removal by the Perpetually Offended for much this reason.
