Monster of the Day #3057

For a while it seemed like the Cult Classics Movie channel on YouTube had run out of ‘new’ schlock horror and sci-fi movies to post. They still had an impressive backlog, but weren’t able to add to it. Now they seemed to be adding at least a few more titles, and good for them. (They do have lots of non-monster movies worth a look, too.) This is the crazy Grade Z Mesa of Lost Women, which apparently Ed Wood might have had some involvement in. In any case, it’s wrong in a lot of the right ways, and you might wish to give it a look.

This is the one with a soundtrack that will drive you mad.

She should have hooked up with GARY from ‘Horrors of Spider Island’.

I think I learned about the existence of this movie because of this site, and was stunned to find out there was a giant spider movie I knew nothing about, and immediately added it to my Netflix queue (back in the DVD days). It was less surprising once I saw the movie and realized the spider was barely in it. I think the most amazing thing about the movie is the editing, if you’re paying attention you realize the bulk of the movie is not just a flashback, it’s a flashback WITHIN another flashback! It starts with someone rescued in the desert telling their story, and then a DIFFERENT character (Pepe I think?) within that story has a flashback which is where most of the action takes place!

That thing looks like one of those legendary Giant Congo Spiders I’ve read about. Time to shelve the Raid and grab a flamethrower.

Talking the Giant Congo Spiders, I wonder why no cheap studio like the Asylum ever made a movie about them?
