Monster of the Day #3052

Hello! I hope everyone had a good weekend.

The Cult Movie Classics channel on YouTube is getting back into  horror/sci-fi mode, although many of the recent additions are borderline monster films. This includes today’s subject, caveman epic Eegah. As everyone who has seen the film knows, the real horror arises the moment star Arch Hall Jr. reaches for his guitar. Still, a fun piece of schlock. Hard to believe you used to get to see stuff like this in theaters, or at least in drive-ins.

Happy (?) Monday, everyone. Can you believe it’s the 4th of July a week from Saturday already? Yeesh.

Bizarre fact I recently found out, maybe everyone else knows this but it surprised me. That Richard Kiel was the original choice to play the Incredible Hulk in the ’70s Bill Bixby TV series. Seems they shot a few frames and decided that though Kiel was tall enough he wasn’t muscular enough for the the role and they replaced him with Lou Ferrigno.

I would say that Eegah is a borderline film.

Ok, someone has to do it; “Watch our for snakes!”

Word has a few long shots of Keil appear in the pilot.

Notable as the first film to feature a dune buggy (or so the posters claimed). Really, it’s pretty impressive that Hall was able to mount a color production for such a scanty budget (very low even by standards of the time). It went on to make over a million at the box office, so by any business standard the film was a great success, however crude it looks.

If you haven’t seen it, make a point to track down the follow-up production, THE SADIST. They say every director, no matter how far down the ladder they may be, has one really good movie in them. Hall had THE SADIST, and it’s worth the look.
