Monster of the Day #3050

The Return of Tabonga!

This one is on Amazon Prime, although it might be on YouTube as well. Originally called The Loves of Hercules (on Amazon it’s Hercules vs the Hydra), it imported American *cough* stars Mickey Hargitay and his wife Jayne Mansfield, who comically makes all the normal buxom Italian actresses in the movie look like Twiggy. Hargitay I have kind of loved since I can him star as the Crinsom Executioner in Bloody Pit of Horror at a drive-in when I was like 10 years old.

I’m wondering if Hargitay had a little talk with the stuntman playing the Ent about where he was grabbing Hargitay’s wife…

Ken, your comment in your ‘Bloody Pit of Horror’ review about Hargitay contorting his face like Arnold Schwarzenegger doing a PeeWee Herman impression was IMHO one of the funniest things you’ve ever written.

I’ve always liked Jayne. She supposedly was a distant cousin of mine. But I wish that poor woman didn’t die that miserable death, or at least that people didn’t keep exploiting it in so many tasteless ways.

I bet Mr. Ent would have listened given that Mickey Hargitay was not a little guy.

Anything with a Tabonga look-alike is okay with me.

  • Ken_Begg

Yes, that’s bad form to an epic degree.

I watched it last night. I wasn’t expecting that much. But it was a pretty good movie.
It’s only the second movie I’ve seen Hargitay in. And he was a pretty darn good leading man. I’m thinking he would have made a really good Superman.
And the hydra was pretty darn cool. I mean it couldn’t move much more than a parade float. But you could tell it was a lot of work involved in building the thing.

I remember a biography written by Jayne’s “friend” that was downright shameless. Not to mention ridiculous in how she tried to present that fraud LaVey like he was the evil sorceror from a horror story. Mind he was a nasty piece of work IRL (He apparently abused his wife and daughter) but crediting him with real unholy powers?
