Monster of the Day #3049

There aren’t a lot of color stills caps from the fairly obscure 1970 flick Bigfoot. This black and white one is pretty good, though, with the lack of color probably making the suit look even worse, and with Joi Lansing and John Carradine featured prominently. The ‘all-star’ cast also includes Chris Mitchum, Doodles Weaver and Ken Maynard. I don’t want to shock the hell out of you, but it’s not great. Still, it’s prime cheese (with Bigfoot grabbing girls right out of Hee Haw to, uh, preserve the species). And hey, free on YouTube.

Have a good week, everyone. Sandy Petersen’s great new game, Dinosaur 1942, begins it’s Kickstarter today. As usual with Sandy’s games, it’s fairly pricey, but also as usual, you get a lot of bang for your bucks. And it’s soldiers vs dinosaurs, so I mean, c’mon.

And this is Sasquatch and Joi Lansing’s shotgun wedding???

This was a movie from 1970??? This still image looks like it would have been from a TV show from 5 or 10 years earlier! If you’d said it was from a lost episode of Beverly Hillbillies I would have believed it,

  • Rock Baker

It was filmed in 69 (well, copyrighted 69 and likely shot in 68) and for some reason unreleased until 72, the same year of Miss Lansing’s passing.

The film cries out for a remastered release, if for no other reason than it’s odd distinction of really being the first ‘real’ Bigfoot movie. That distinction was robbed of it by it’s delayed release, but it was the first film to be made on the subject seeing as the original 60’s version of CURSE OF BIGFOOT was really more of a mummy movie.

That sounds about right given that the Patterson footage first surfaced in 1967 and that’s when Bigfoot mania really started to take root in the US.

  • Rock Baker

Said film is even referenced in dialog. Likely the entire production was spurred by the hoopla over the Patterson footage. Fitting that the monsters look about as realistic in both films. The most astounding bit of trivia for BIGFOOT may be that it’s monster costumes are credited to playmate/model Merci Montello!

Seems like someone should be yelling “Jeeed!”

I love that utterly boggled look on Carradine’s face. It’s like he can’t understand what he’s supposed to be doing there.
