Monster of the Day #2009

The finale T-Rex movie (OK, “T-Rex” is loosely define) was Beast from Hollow Mountain, a pretty boring Western enlivened by a nice 10 minute dino-rampage. It’s no Valley of Gwangi, that’s for sure, but look at that thing. It’s adorable.

Oh he’s so cute!!! He’s even got a chew toy!

The powerful arms on that sucka make me think big Allosaur instead of T-rex though…

  • Ericb

I think it was supposed to be an Allosaurus.

  • Eric Hinkle

I’ve seen this one. The dinosaur scenes are definitely the parts most worth watching.

  • It’s the famous Moviesaurus Rex!

  • The Rev.

They’re about the ONLY parts worth watching. I do enjoy the fistfight in the marketplace, but only because it’s fun to see them miss by a country mile with their “devastating” punches. Other than that, it is just a slog. The last part is pretty damn fun, though; more so than I actually remembered it being. I had also forgotten that this dino has a peculiarly long tongue which is constantly flapping around when it opens its mouth, leading to several Gene Simmons jokes during our viewing.

They get me twice, I’ll watch just about any old western or old dinosaur movie. MST3K did this in the re-boot.

  • Mike Weller

Oh, I gotta watch that with a replay of The Black Scorpion.

    Carlos Rivas fan? ;-)

Amusing you note Gwangi. The armature of the dinosaur model actually IS Gwangi. The metal skeleton was built for O’Brien’s aborted 1947 film, reportedly.

An odd note is the scene where the dinosaur is running after the horse. Rather than actual animation, that’s actually a series of static models constructed in a run cycle. Strange way of doing it, but the models for that sequence were once listed on Ebay many years ago. I have no idea what they brought.

  • Mike Weller

No, first MST3K I ever saw!
