Monster of the Day #1993

There were better horror movies made that year (Army of Darkness), but this guy stuck around a surprisingly long time.

We coming up a little ‘short’ on MotD’s???

Frankly, I was thinking this movie was older, guess there’s been so many sequels I keep thinking it’s been around longer.

Didn’t he once fight gangsta rappers in a rap-off, and kidnap a princess in outer space?

There’ve been a lot of these, haven’t there? I’ve never seen any of them though.

Well, I just saw the Banana Splits (your Skull) movie. Got it from Redbox, and it’s barely worth the $2 rental. Heck most of the killings happen offscreen (in a slasher movie?). The big problem is that it’s just sort of average. Really a generic slasher film with the Splits as the killers.

However, they do use the Hero’s Battle Death Exemption, so Jabootu got a nod there. And yes they’re working on a sequel! They show the destroyed animatronic Splits getting away in the end.

Heck they even have an interview with the actors where they mention that kiddy shows are “creepy”, and how all mascots are ugly. They go so far as to describe the idea of the movie as ‘disgusting’. Kind of makes you wonder why they made the film in the first place.

Ahhh Jennifer Aniston as a teen, before “Friends”

God bless you sir for suffering for us. You’ve got more guts than I!

  • Gamera977

That was the original film right? It’s the only one I’ve seen, though the ‘hood and outer space sequels sound like a riot.

OT, Franco Columbu died via drowning. He was Ahnold’s body double in a lot of films, and played the “future-flashback” Terminator in the first film.

The worst part is that the film is just plain dull. Pure by the numbers, straight to DVD plot. Why are you even gonna corrupt goofy and innocent childrens’ TV characters into sadistic killers and then not use that to its utmost?

Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by watching actual quality slashers like the original Halloween, Hills Have Eyes, and My Bloody Valentine. None of those are classic films but at least you care what happens in them and hope some of the victims escape.

Over the weekend watched the Japanese, I guess I’d call it a black comedy, ‘Why Don’t You Play in Hell?’ An amateur film crew who have been waiting over a decade for their big break are approached by the leader of the local Yakuza to film a raid on another den of mobsters. So the overly enthusiastic director films a bunch of guys killing each other for real like an action movie. Blood splatters everywhere, body parts go flying in cartoony fashion. Very weird film, not sure I liked it or disliked it, but it’s one of a kind…
