Uhm……no.

Per Mania.com: “Move over Tom Selleck, we may have a new Magnum P.I. very soon. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that actor Matthew McConaughey has been offered the part but he’s still in the process of reading the script. Writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) penned the screenplay, based on the popular 80’s television series. Imagine Entertainment and Brian Grazer plans to produce the feature film.”

I never thought I’d be writing, “He’s not fit to step in Tom Selleck’s shoes,” but cripes. I find the idea that Matthew McConaughey could pull this off extremely dubius. Also the idea that McConaughey can read. And the writer of Dodgeball?! I wasn’t a huge Magnum fan, but barf. At least they aren’t talking about McConaughey playing Jim Rockford.

Because, you know, that should be The Rock.

so it’s going to be a comedy not a drama damn.

The original Magnum wasn’t exactly a drama either – it was pretty light-hearted about the whole thing.

While it’s true Magnum, P.I. wasn’t a dark, heavy drama, it was hardly a slapstick comedy, either. I agree that making the movie into one is a bad idea. d-:

It being from the writer of Dodgeball doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to be a comedy. The guy that wrote the script’s one other movie doesn’t appear to be a comedy and I’m sure there are many writers out who have been known to write both comedy and non-comedy at different times. Still, given the tendency with recent remakes of olf TV shows it is not a big assumption. As for McConaughey taking the role that Selleck had, it’s not like he a high standard set for him by his predecessor and, his proclivity for crappy romantic comedies aside, I’ve never minded the guy.

    Wait… Dodgeball was a comedy?!

If they had wanted it to be a comedy they would have cast Will Farrell in the role.
