Monster of the Day #1699

Netflix recently premiered, Godzilla Monster Planet, the first Godzilla anime movie. It was OK. Godzilla doesn’t really show up until near the end, maybe because they have scheduled a few follow-up films and are saving him for those. So…meh. I will admit I’m not the world’s biggest anime fan.

I saw it listed on Netflix but not being much of an anime fan so far haven’t watched it.

I haven’t seen the new Japanese Godzilla film but he kinda looks like the recent Hollywood version to me here.

The one from last year, Shin Godzilla? I thought the monster action was great but there was very little of it. The movie is more about the state of Japanese bureaucracy than about Godzilla.

  • I thought it was good, but not as good as Shin Godzilla or the recent American Godzilla. It’s definitely a missed opportunity. More monster on monster action without the budget limitation would have been wonderful.

My biggest problem with it was how immobile Godzilla was: half the time he looked more like a still image to me, and I thought that was just such a huge missed opportunity.

Yeah. We needed the 62 version, who can move and wrestle, grappel and shoulder-throw, and using the heat ray when it’s most needed.
