Monster of the Day #1672

I’ve probably featured this before, but who cares. It’s great.

Just in case, here’s a bonus.

I assume from one of the images that this is Harvey Weinstein’s skull. (oooh, topical!)

Did anyone ever collect on the free burial guarantee on ‘The Screaming Skull’?

I’d have been tempted to fake my own death but for reading too many Edgar Allan Poe stories……

I was happy to learn that Peggy Webber is still keeping herself busy at 92 with a group she founded called California Artists Radio Theatre stil producing “radio” plays. She does not have too many feature films to her credit so even ones like this are fun to see just for her appearance.

I wonder if you could still collect today? You could put it on a loop for a terminal patients and help out the family.

I remember seeing “The Skull” on TV when I was younger. The skull just sort of floating around was pretty freaky, though probably less so than the parrot-driven skull from that Three Stooges short.

“How you fixed for blades? You better check!”

(A parody of an animated commercial with a parrot in a sailor’s outfit hawking razor blades.)

  • Eric Hinkle

I always wondered why people just didn’t swat the skull with some suitably heavy object and smash it.

The Skull… that’s one Cushing-Lee movie I haven’t caught yet. I’m not as enamored with Amicus films as I am with Hammer (with the exception of Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors, of course.)

OT, I treated myself to a Hammer marathon a few weeks back when I picked up the Hammer Horror Series 8-Film Collection and the Hammer Film Icons of Horror Collection (four more films) for Halloween. Twelve movies in all, including some of my faves, like Scream of Fear and The Gorgon, plus a few goodies I’ve never seen before, like Kiss of the Vampire (recommended) and Night Creatures (a fun remake of Dr. Syn, starting Peter Cushing.)

Who needs TCM when you can do it all yourself?

  • Beckoning Chasm

The Stooges tried that, with predictable results. In this movie, I bet each piece of the Skull would grow into a new skull.

I assume from one of the images that this is Harvey Weinstein’s skull. (oooh, topical!)

They asked Hillary Clinton if Harvey Weinstein’s treatment of women was as bad as her husband’s, she said, “Close, but no cigar.”
