Monster of the Day #1651

So many made for video movies following the 80s, although as least this era featured monster suits rather than horrible SYFY CGI. And they often assembled pretty good casts. This one boasts Peter Riegert (was a sarcastic police detective, which he seemed to play a ton of), Joan Severance, William Hickey, Laurence Tierney and Alexander Godunov.

Speaking of suits, is it possible that’s a reworked version of the monster from one of the Watchers movies? Or am I completely misremembering that beastie?

  • The Rev.

Wasn’t familiar with this one. It sounds interesting enough I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

There is some resemblance to the thing from Watchers, but whether it’s a reworked suit I certainly couldn’t tell you.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I haven’t seen this or any of the Watchers movies, but there tends to be a lot of overlap in monster designs–either that, or a lack of imagination. A lot of early CGI creatures were just giant hounds, over and over and over again, until you started yelling at the screen “Okay, okay, you’ve earned your CGI certificate! Now please use some imagination along with your training!”

Why does the face on that thing make me think ‘Bruce Dern?’

  • Ken_Begg

It’s on YouTube, although as you’d imagine the quality ain’t so hot.

  • Gamera977

So what movie is this please?

  • The Rev.

    It’s called The Runestone.

Thanks! Being on YouTube I’ll have to check it out.
