Have I really never featured this beastie before? Ah, well, if I have, it wasn’t this picture anyway. This is obviously inspired by my entirely satisfactory viewing of Kong Skull Island over the weekend. Meanwhile, today’s featured film has been sitting on my DVD shelf unwatched for over a decade, so maybe it’s time to break it open. But the Brit ‘sex’ comedy–inevitably starring Robin Askwith–is supposed to be dreadful, so I’m fearing another Sextette.

    British giant ape movie? I’m guessing it’s not Konga, I don’t remember any sex comedy there. Well other than Michael Gough’s professor having a thing for his cute student and that wasn’t played as funny.

    I’ve heard of QUEEN KONG, though it’s so obscure I nearly doubted the film’s actual existence until I ran across a few shots on the internet. I had no idea it could be found on disk!

    IIRC, Dino De Laurentiis may have had something to do with the limited release in any format.

    By the way, I got word of another woefully obscure one called REVENGE OF BIGFOOT – a 1980 flick shot in Arkansas and starring none other than Rory Calhoun! Rumor has it that Bill Clinton has a small part in the picture, which is the assumed reason that the film has been suppressed since it’s initial theatrical run, which itself may’ve been only regional.

    I can’t believe what a jerk Gough’s character is in Konga. Normally, wouldn’t they make the mad scientist somewhat sympathetic, at least in the beginning? He’s a conniving ass from scene one! I did like the transformation scene when the real chimpanzee changes into a man in an orange gorilla suit though.

    Looks like it is included with Prime (no additional charge), however, you can purchase/rent too.

    It was a Herman Cohen movie. Cohen remade that basic plot like a zillion times, and the scientist (usually Gough or Whit Bissell, his exact American analogue) was always a complete dick.
