Son of Frankenstein & Guest Star in Chicago….

Well, in Park Ridge, actually. My old library friend Matt Hoffman now hosts a classic movie once a month at the historic Pickwick Theater. This month it’s Son of Frankenstein, with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi (in arguably his best role), Basil Rathbone and Lionel Atwill.

Matt will be flying in on his own dime the film’s only surviving castmember, Donnie Dunagan, who played young Peter in the film. Tell your friends!

    “Inspector Kemp…will you help us?”

  • Wow! Weird knowing that there’s still people from these classic movies still around.
I remember meeting Mickey Carroll, one of the last Munchkins from the 39′ version of ‘The Wizard Of Oz’ a few years ago. Now he’s gone and think there’s only one original cast member left. Nice when you can meet them before time catches up.

Young Peter was one of the most annoying brats ever to appear on film. I was longing for Karloff to toss him into a lake.

That’s an odd-looking still…it looks like it was taken “backstage.” What is the monster holding, a hamhock?

How I wish I was there to see this, the greatest of all the Universal Frankenstein movies! I’ll just have to be satisfied with my DVD.

And Donnie Dunagan is still alive? I’m kind of surprised to hear that.

He’s holding on to Kemp’s artificial arm there. That being the second time he yanked Kemp’s arm off, with the first being when Kemp was a child.

*sighs* The monster tore a kid’s arm from its socket, Ygor murdered people for rightly condemning him to hang, and people still try to argue that in this movie Ygor and the Monster were the real victims.

    Bambi!

    “Arm up don’t shoot!”

Too bad they didn’t double-bill this with Ghost of Frankenstein. Then they could also have invited actor William Smith to the screening. (Smith reportedly was a child extra in that film.)

By the way, speaking of horror fests, TCM is adding two new films to their annual Halloween marathon: The Others and The Legend of Hell House. Unfortunately, for some unfathomable reason, The Others is being dumped in the 4:00 AM slot (yes, that’s A.M.) on October 23 EST. However, The Legend of Hell House will get a prime time slot at 8:00 P.M. EST on October 30th.

TCM is about the only thing I’ve truly missed since dumping cable.

Well, that and the premiere of Sharknado II, but that’s a lot less defensible.
