Monster of the Day #947

Huh, I don’t think I’ve posted this guy yet. Still holes in MotD, even after all this time.

  • Flangepart

“Hi, I’m Dogora. I’ll be your MoD. Now let me introduce out guest Gajin, Robert Dunham.”

  • Gamera977

Diamonds are a Dogora’s best friend.

  • Here’s a rather neat idea for a monster movie. Too bad it falls to pieces at the end.

  • bgbear_rnh

I think I want to make “DOGORA” my new euphemism.

  • Eric Hinkle

How so? I’ve never seen the movie — the last time it was out on DVD it was gone before I could get a copy. But I understand it’s considered both a very original kaiju movie and in some ways a rather flawed one.

  • The Rev.

I’m not sure if he’s serious or making a pun based on the climax.

I’m a bit ashamed to say that I’ve had this DVD for years and have yet to watch it. This may be the impetus I need to finally get to it.

  • Ericb

Too much diamond heist antics and too little giant space jellyfish.

  • bgbear_rnh

sadly, just like real life :(

  • A little bit of both, actually. As I recall, the subplot (which amusingly enough is about jewel thieves) sort of goes to pot at one point, though the specifics now escape me.

It’ worth a watch. I’m rather sorry I never picked it up.

  • Flangepart

Yeah. After seeing the ‘pick up a bride and drop it’ scene, along with the ‘levitating coal’ sequence, I really wish the monster was the star.

Like Joe Bob Briggs says about Kaiju Eiga: “The monsters are the stars, the human actors are furniture.”

  • Flangepart

Okay…I meant to write BRIDGE…but ‘bride’ woulda made a good scene too.

  • bgbear_rnh

Hah, I thought it was a homage to the scene in King Kong when he dropped the not-faywray lady.
