Monster of the Day #925

As I noted, monsters were (comparatively) scant on the ground in the first season, but there where some. This one is pretty obvious and fairly mundane, admittedly. If I remember correctly,the episode inevitably featured an obsessed Ahab-analogue, but maybe I’m just assuming that to be the case.

    If I recall the movie correctly, a giant squid did try to mate with the Seaview. They discouraged it by electrifying the hull. It swam away mumbling “That’s what I call a Kiss ! “

    I assume the real questions are: where did this whale prop came from and did the scale differences in the two props drive part of the story line.

    I was thinking the same thing. Either the Seaview shrank, or that’s a really, really…….really big whale.

    Granted I haven’t seen the episode myself, but I remember hearing about it on an Irwin Allen documentary the Sci Fi Channel produced way back when (The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen?). I think this might be the ghost of Mody Dick! I think it also turns up in a color episode, and some men end up being swallowed by it and wandering around on sets built for FANTASTIC VOYAGE.
