I mean, how can you go wrong with someone taking a blockbuster trilogy, pitching a prequel movie years later, and then thinking it would be a good idea to turn that prequel movie into full-on prequel trilogy? Your concerns are a phantom menace. Hey with six full hours to cover one book, I'll bet they'll have time to include all the songs and such! Thirteen singing dwarves! What can possibly go wrong?"

I can only assume this was more studio than Jackson. I mean... you look at long ass Lord of the Rings, then you look at slim lil' Hobbit, and of course you say, "Both need 3 movies."

According to Wikipedia the film will be more than just a straight retelling of the novel but will also include material from the appendicese of LotR so as to fill in the gap between the two stories.

Ah, but with the miracle of advanced 4D technology many movies can just make you feel that they are 24 hours long.

This the first I've heard of the third film, but I am assuming that the actual The Hobbit material ends with the second movie as originally planned? So far the announcements I've seen have been vague. Maybe I've watched the appendices of the LOtR box sets too many times, but I do have a good feeling that whatever Peter, Phillipa and crew come up with will be done in good faith and based in Tolkien himself. I guess that puts me in the 'more of it to enjoy' camp. Plus, now my kids are old enough to see it in the theater with me- bring 'em on!

I've been accused of doing things I didn't do, but would have- if I'd'a thought about 'em first.

"The Cure for Insomnia" is 87 hours long.
