Kilmer and Clooney though had the problem, beyond horrible scripts, that you could see them as being Batman without the outfit. Nolan seems to have realized that and had Bale as a playboy Bruce Wayne. Sure he looks like he can be Batman but his frat boyish maturity is an effective screen.

That takes us to Affleck. The only way he's going to work is if his Bruce Wayne persona some how manages to overcome the Ben Affleck "charm."
