Monster of the Day #725

Well, now you don’t have to see the movie.

  • Luke Blanchard

This is from THE FACE AT THE WINDOW (1939), one of several star vehicles for Tod Slaughter, who played the villains. The movie was based on an 1897 play which the IMDB tells me had been filmed three times previously. The earlier films appeared in 1919, 1920 and 1932. The first was Australian; the others were British. Apparently Raymond Massey played a detective in the 1932 version.

That’s not Tod Slaughter in the image, by the way. His character is a gleefully evil schemer.

    Welcome to Britain!

Man do I hate it when my high school photos pop up on the web.

Not that I look anything like this. Unfortunately. I’m just making conversation.

I’ve only seen a few of Slaughter’s films but he played a glee evil schemer in those too!

‘Bloody ‘ell’ also fit the bill.

The other film I’ve seen him in is SEXTON BLAKE AND THE HOODED TERROR. I think it was while watching that one that I noticed his very mobile eyebrows.
