Monster of the Day #703

Ah, that’s the stuff. This is the preferred format for the covers, as far as I can tell; modern folks huddling in the background whilst the neanderthal Kona deals with things. “Don’t worry,” we imagine him shouting in resigned exasperation. “I got this! You guys just cool your heels over there, maybe have a lemonade or something, you @#($)&$@>

Um, so is Monster Isle in the Gobi Desert? How would that work?

  • Flangepart

Maybe he started out on Monster Isle, than started killing big wee beasties all over the earth?

  • Gamera977

Um, that loincloth doesn’t seem to be very protective of Kona’s tender bits with the giant scorpion’s mouth parts that close…

  • Cullen Waters

“Will someone please tell Calibos to stop stabbing Medusa’s head or whatever the hell he’s doing? It stopped being funny after the first film.”

  • Ken_Begg

Actually, I think that did happen eventually. The stranded adventurers were saved and brought Kona back to the modern world to fight monsters there. Don’t know which period this tale belongs to.

Well now I know who Brock Sampson’s father is.

  • Rock Baker

That looks to be a military knife. World War 1 vintage? Those Army surplus stores are the best, aren’t they?!

  • Ken_Begg

Bayonet, maybe? I assume the Modern People gave it to him so they wouldn’t have to do anything for themselves. They probably gave him a weedwacker, too.

  • Rock Baker

He could have found it, I suppose. Turok was always making use of the things he found (dinosaur skin for shoes, poison berries for arrows, etc.). I’ve never read anything of Kona though. I don’t know if it was ever as solid a series.

  • Flangepart

E-yeah, was gonna mention that. I’d say that situation, I’d REALLY like to see him get out alive, let along his manhood intact.
I mean, stinger, claws and mouth parts at the naughty bits? It’s like a parody of this whole genre.
