Monster of the Day #481

Good grief! Doesn’t that guy know plesiosaurs were enraged by golf pants?!

  • Ericb

“Oh come on, give us a break!  The Plesiosaur is bad enough, the giant sea turtle is just overkill.”

  • Beckoning Chasm

Looks like that one guy’s furious scowl is keeping it at bay.

  • Flanfepart

The Sea Turtle is waiting for leftovers.

  • bgbear_rogerh

    Gamera?

  • The Rev.

Maybe he’s pissed because of a case of mistaken identity.

“No, I am NOT Manda, and he is NOT Gamera!!!  Why do you all ask us that!?!”

  • Gamera977

    I wasn’t there…
    No one has any evidence…
    No one can prove anything…

  • You’re all wrong. Look at that toothy grin. This creature is just the friendly local salesmonster here to offer our travelers his wares! The turtle is his associate, who carries the stock on his back like a traveling wagon. Were this image not cropped off behind his neck, you’d see that.

“Hey guys, I see you’re adrift! Well, I just happen to have a baker’s dozen of Evenrude outboard motors and I can give you one at only $10 over cost! Gary, show ’em the merchandise! Why yes, I can also provide ammunition for your hunting rifle! I just got some brand-name hollow-points in stock this week!”

  • MrTongoRad

But the fangs would seem to indicate that it’s poisonous. Or even a vampire-saurus… maybe that explains its oily, supercilious salesmanlike personal manner. It’s definitely up to something underhanded.

  • Greenhornet

The real reason they never escaped Gilligan’s Island.

  • Marsden

Rock, that’s one of the best comments in a long time.  Fuller Brush monster!

  • Lpblan

This was the third issue of Amazing Stories. The cover apparently depicts a scene from Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, which the title was serialising.

  • Flangepart

The seated guy at the tiller makes me think, “Wow, Dutch Boy paint sells everywhere!”

  • The Rev.

Oh, of course!  I should’ve noticed that myself.  I don’t recall a giant turtle, though.  I’m pretty sure the plesiosaur was fighting an icthyosaur or pliosaur, although it’s been a long time since I’ve read it.

  • sandra

For a second, I though the guy in the checked pants had no legs ! Hmm, the picture doesn’t fit any Welsl or Verne story I recall, so I guess its the one by Ellis Parker Butler (Who ? ).

  • sandra

What those guys need is a sudden burst of wind to get them out of the way between the Pleisosaur and the Turtle.  With any luck, they will then attack each other.

  • Ken_Begg

Actually, it’s a scene from Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth.

  • sandra

I guess the Little Dutch Boy didn’t put his finger in the dyke in time ;-)
