Monster of the Day #447

“Are those carnivorous pseudopods, or are you just happy to see me?”

“First a tickle and now a pinch, oh the horror!”

  • MrTongoRad

This scene had the most awesome foley job- providing you like your foley effects to be unconvincing and totally obvious.

I just wish that Shout Factory would release the MST3K of this.  If they could grab all those Gamera films how hard could this one be?

  • Flangepart

    Sock puppets from heck!
Yeah, this movie is only gonna sell if Joel and the Bots are riffing it.

  • I love this picture because it shows how useless Deeja is.  She cycles between that and aggressive stupidity through the movie.

And you missed an opportunity to show a picture of how easy it was to avoid the worms just by walking down the middle of the cave.

  • Capt Nemo

If you look closely, you’ll see the Millenium Falcon fly out of one of the mouths.

    Empire Strikes Back, anyone?

  • Aw, nuts, for a split second I thought they might be the similar wall snakes from ALLAN QUARTERMAIN AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD. Those cave critters were nothing before the power of James Earl Jones and his gigantic battle axe! Man, those were fun movies!

(Fun, if frightening, bit of trivia: the spell check tells me “axe” isn’t a word, but “ax” is. When did that change? Did they drop the E to make it easier to spell for even-lazier-than-I-would-have-thought teens in this generation of texting? Seriously, what gives? It’s always been “axe” hasn’t it? The movie was called AXE, right?)

She looks like she is just messing with the worms.  I mean who really shows shock and alarm by raising the hands to their face.

  • Well, the instinctive move is one to shield your eyes and ears and such from possible danger.  It’s a reflex mechanism particularly strong in women -who tend to be much more sensitive to the instinct for preserving vital spots like the eyes, ears, mouth, brain, etc.

(Interestingly, men in similar stress situations seem mostly moved by instinct to protect only their eyes, as a raised forearm is the most common move when a man is startled. I guess you could interpret this as a woman’s instinct being to shield her vital areas, while the man’s instinct is to block the danger by turning into it. Men are hardwired to be stupid, it would seem.)

Granted, this gal looks more like she’s experiencing an Excedrin Headache.

  • bgbear_rogerh

maybe if she had a step stool to stand on and yelled “eek” she would have delivered it better ;)

  • Gamera977

Just watched the MST3K version of this on YouTube. Mercy, I thought ‘Manos: The Hands of Fate’ was bad- this movie gives it a run for the money in awfulness. Ken’s review does not do it justice as to it’s sheer badness. Only good thing is the gals (I refuse to dignify them with the term actresses) were attractive.

And what the heck with Valaria? Since she was playing a humanoid robot was she told to try to imitate Schwarzenegger?

  • I don’t know what this one is.

  • Flangepart

Ah. This one is ROBOT HOLOCOST. A classic MST3K Ep. from the first season IIRC.
