From FoJ and contributor Rock Baker:
“I thought I’d let you know the ballot is out for this year’s Rondo Awards, and you might want to spread the word around the rest of the crowd. My personal connection to this year’s ballot is that ATTACK OF THE OCTOPUS PEOPLE has been nominated, and I feel partly responsible for that since I helped Josh find his distributor. Also, there’s a G-Fan video nominated as best short which features the Godzilla suits that my Pop and Brother made! (I’m not putting in a plug, but I am excited about that!) Anyway, the Rondos operate on voting obtained by word of mouth, so I’m helping spread the word.”
Rock had sent me a copy of Attack of the Octopus People, and it’s pretty good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely a micro-budgeted, shot on video DIY fan movie, if you go in expecting a professional film you won’t get one. However, it’s pretty impressive indeed for something made by a 16 year-old, and it’s clear the guy knows his old monster movies.
I noted the movie has gotten an Alpha DVD release, and you can check out their page here. So congrats to all involved on that. (In the best tradition of exploitation films, the poster art promises *way* more thant he film itself can hope to deliver.) Here’s a link to the film’s trailer on YouTube.
At the risk of the muddying the waters, I can only note also that the wonderful Lovecraft film (which our own Sandy Petersen invested in) Whisperer in the Darkness is also up for best feature. If you haven’t gotten the incredible DVD yet, it’s a must buy.
Here’s the Godzilla short Rock alluded to (Holy crow!):
Good luck, Rock!
