Monster of the Day #432

And so we kill off Alien Factor. However, I realized that the earlier shot of the Zagatile didn’t show it off to effect, as it looked normal sized the way it was framed. Couldn’t find a decent color shot, but here’s a nice B&W still.

All I could think of was, ‘What a pain in the ass it must have been to film this thing in a basement!’ Seriously, why would you even bother? I can only assume they wrote the script that way, but once you saw how tall the suit was, wouldn’t you rework something?

Filmed during the ‘Age of Impressive Belt Buckles’, no doubt (notice that the ostensible hero has one, but the monster doesn’t have a belt!). I remember those days- every mall had a number of stores where you could get one tailored to your own personal needs- it really brings me back.

How did that thing even make it into a basement?  It looks only maginally better at handling stairs than a 1960s era Dalek.

Also, why is an alien wearing blue jeans?

  •  Because he was in the process of creating his human disguise, and also it was far cheaper to make half a suit.

  • God bless The Alien Factor!

Chicks, man, it’s always about the chicks.

  • The Rev.

All right, all these critters have convinced me I need to dust that 50 DVD collection off and watch this ASAP.  Especially the stop-motion Sleestack/Rhedosaurus critter.

  • Gamera977

Well, you guys have convinced me I have to pick up a copy of this movie now. How can I can lived for so long without seeing this???

  • Gamera977

I think the alien needs pants so it can wear an awesome belt buckle. I mean you could wear a belt without pants but even a monster knows that would just look silly.

  • Ericb

And it’s comforting to know that even aliens have “casual fridays”.

It appears to have three legs !

  • Ken_Begg

    That’s what *she* said!

  • The top fella is the one who made the cover of Famous Monsters. Although I’d raise issue with the “monster” label for this particular character.

  • Flangepart

Notice the feet? Must have been a bear (Ahem) to walk in. Catch a ‘heel’ on a rug, and do a face plant in a Kleeg light stand.
    Yeesh!

  • I know it was pretty obscure for a long time. Back in the 80’s and early 90’s I was pretty much convinced I’d never get to see it. Then, about five years ago, my brother buys a copy! Happy day!

OK, there was the Zagatile (the Bigfoot like creature), the Inferbyce (Insectoid), the Leemoid (invisible stop-motion creature) but what was the hero aliens name? Did he have an actual name outside of his human disguise? By the way I love this movie, first saw it along with Starship Invasions about winter of 1980, and it scared my 10 year old self spitless.
