Dang. If only I weren’t on the wrong coast.

  • WHY DOES COOL STUFF LIKE THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN AFTER I MOVED FROM ILLINOIS!

(That I’ve spent half my life out of the state doesn’t make the pain any less great,)

  • Sandy Petersen

But … Illinois doesn’t HAVE gila monsters! I call shenanigans.

  • Rock Baker

This is a gag right? I’m slower some days than others. If it is real, I’m insulted. There’s no way modern (red, anti-God, over-sexed) Hollywood could make a film like The Giant Gila Monster. It would cause all the executives to explode from the inside.

Franklin College is where they hold that mammoth B-movie festival every year. So I assume this is an independent production made by fans of such films.

One of the Duke Boys is starring in a remake / sequel to The Killer Shrews, by the way.

  • Rock Baker

With its intimate setting and growing sense of danger, The Killer Shrews is one of the few 50’s films I’d actually support a remake of.  I think the script/setup is strong enough to support a newer film (although it has been argued that 1968’s Night of the Living Dead was something of a remake already).

Or, someone could just make picture with a similar mood. Since high school, I’ve wanted to make a period piece about an explosion in the wolverine population that causes the hungry critters to lay siege on a small Canadian town in the late 50’s……… But most of the older character actors would have loved to use in the film are all dead now.

  • Rock Baker

“character actors I would have loved to use” I mean. And I should mention the town in question was an isolated trapping town near the DEW line, not some suburb near the border. For that setting, I’d have killer bears.
