Monster of the Day #349

Best Whack-a-Mole ever!

  • New posting format Ken? Thank goodness I already use disqus.

    I haven’t! We’ll see how it goes.

Is this the sand monster from that episode of The Outer Limits with Adam West?

  • Cullen Waters

Petoht – That’s what I would have said.

I’m kind of stuck in 1995 in terms of technological knowhow. Can anyone tell me how to make an avatar?  Thanks.

  • Ken_Begg

I did it a while ago, but I think I used Gravatar. The advantage is once you set it up, it crosses websites.

Sand Shark!… from Outer Limits, yeah, has to be.

  • Yes, that’s definitely “The Invisible Enemy.”  (I think that was the title.)

  • Sandy Petersen

I tried gravatar so let’s see if it reproduces my awesome image. As a kid I always preferred Outer Limits to Twilight Zone. This is probably at least in part becasue Twilight Zone had lots of thoughtful “talky” episodes, while I always got a monster in Outer Limits. Woot!

  • Good picture. It’s the guy from Breaking Bad, right?

Outer Limits show runner Joe Stephano (who wrote the Psycho screenplay) famously demanded every episode have a “bear.” Stephano left before the second season, and the bears became less regular. I note the show was cancelled after the second season, so maybe Joe knew what he was talking about.

I liked both, talky and monster action.  It’s hard to believe what they can do now compared to then and what they actually do now compared to then.  I mean we’ve got all kinds of tech and technique and they make mostly crap.  Maybe I’m giving the 50s a pass because we’re concentrating on the good looking back, but what holds up to it nowadays?

  • Marsden

BTW, that should have been a continuation on what Sandy said.

I think I made a Disqus account and then just uploaded a picture.

Heh.  I only guessed right because of the wonderful people at WCIU in Chicago.  One of their expanded digital channels is called “THIS” and on Saturday mornings at 6am, they show the Outer Limits.  Just in time for me to watch after work.

I feel sorry for the puppeteer having to be buried in that sand pile. Hope the sfx studio didn’t have any pet cats hanging around!

  • The Rev.

How did you get it to use your Gravatar one, Ken?  I don’t see it as an option.
