Monster of the Day #343

Jim Hensen’s original Cookie Monster design needed a little work.

  • I haven’t seen this movie in way too long. It’s a well made little movie and monsters are fun to draw!

I think your first live patient in dental hygiene school must look like this.

  • This was a terrific little movie. I was most impressed by the fact that the characters aren’t idiots – a trait shared by few horror film actors.

I’m not saying they always make correct decisions, or that they don’t freak out on occasion – but at least they don’t make obviously stupid moves. It’s sad that that sets them apart so well.

Also the monster is memorable and adorable

  • The Rev.

This is one of those movies that, whenever I am reminded of them, I mutter, “Why the hell haven’t I gotten around to seeing that yet??”

Many moons ago I saw in a local grocery store’s rental section, and was fascinated with the bloody severed limbs and amazing-looking critters on the front of the box. By the time I was old enough to rent such things, it of course was long gone. Now, though, it’s on DVD, which means I don’t really have an excuse.

  • BeckoningChasm

Very enjoyable film. One of the few DVDs I’m determined to keep always. Good commentary tracks, too.

  • Flangepart

    “Fangs, for the memories…”

Nasty to me, as I’m not into gore. But, the events match the threat.

  • John Campbell

    Is this a critters movie?

  • David Fullam

    Love me some Deadly Spawn!

  • Petoht

It kinda reminds me of a Langolier, aside from not being a horrible CGI.

  • Mr. Rational

A set of tonsils only a mother could love.

  • For those who have not seen it, it is not really that gory (given that just looking at the monster sort of seems like a gorefest, even when it’s not eating). There is basically one slightly gory scene if you are afraid of fake severed heads. Some people get sounds on their legs etc., but generally it’s pretty mild. If you are turned off by gore, don’t let that stop you. Few scenes are about the gore.
