Monster of the Day #299

Joan Rivers was quickly voted off Dancing with the Stars.

For a minute I thought that monster was totally copping a feel, but now I see that is her hand. Still, hands, Mister!

  • Mr. Rational

So…who is that Joan Rivers is trying to fondle from the rear?

  • BeckoningChasm

    That monster has beautiful eyes.

  • The Rev.

This is not ringing a bell for me. What is this from?

  • John Campbell

Is this still the four skulls movie?

Or is Ken trying to get us to punch the shark?

  • Rock Baker

Ah! Voodoo Woman! An under-rated gem! (Even if it is largely just a jungle-themed cash-in on AIP’s earlier hit, The She Creature. In fact, the monster suit is built from the remains of the She Creature, the first of many revisions of Blaisdell’s most popular, and durable, suit!)

Dig this cast: Touch Connors, Marla English, Tom Conway, Lance Fuller! AIP really knew how to make a quickie monster movie on the cheap that still delivered the goods.

Voodoo Woman also served as the basis for one of Larry Buchanan’s mildly less awful remakes, Curse of the Swamp Creature. Since the change in local from Africa to Texas required a bit more of an original script, it wasn’t just the same lines we’d heard before. Never above lousing up a good thing, though, Buchanan brought in John Agar to star, and then gave him nothing to do! John spends pretty much the entire last reel with the same expression on his face, off to the side, completely out of the action.

  • Ha, I knew Rock would know this.

  • Rock Baker

I just have that sense about me that tells people “He’s seen Voodoo Woman!”

  • Rock Baker

Be warned, there MAY be a 70s film under the same title, but I can’t be sure.

    With apologies to Roy Orbison…

Voodoo womam, skulkin’ down the street.
Voodoo woman, your face she’d like to eat, Voodoo woman…
You got big peepers, skin like grue.
No one can look as bad, as youuuuu…
