Nicholas Courtney RIP

The passing of an era. At the side of, and butting heads with, many Doctors over the years, he survived Daleks, Cybermen, Zygons, Autons and several dozen other menaces. Despite the Doctor’s often withering contempt, he always stood his ground with honor. In the end, he fell to the one foe which cannot be overcome, not even by a Time Lord. He will be remembered, and sorely missed. Stand down, Brigadier. Your duty is done.

Dang, the Brigadier was swesome. RIP…

  • The Rev.

Probably my favorite non-Doctor character. He was a welcome foil for the good Doctor, and a good soldier. Mr. Courtney did a great job with him.

    Rest well, sir.

  • BeckoningChasm

He was a great actor and a terrific character. I like how over the course of the series, the show went from being slightly contemptuous (you know, he’s in the bad old military) to greatly admiring.

  • David Fullam

As the Brig would day “Blast.” I’ll miss him. Glad he had one last go in Sarah Jane Adventures.

“You know just once I’d like to meet an alien menace that wasn’t immune to bullets.”

I am typing with tears in my eyes. The Brig and Sarah Jane were my first companions and, along with the late lamented Jon Pertwee, will always be “real” Dr. Who to me.

    Sir, I salute you.

  • I too, am tearing up. He was just about my favorite character in all the DWs.

  • Frank Bauroth

    R.I.P. Brig. You are missed.

I only wish they had managed to get him back for the new series of Doctor Who prior to his passing.

The Brigadier was always superb, a great foil and companion to the Doctor. And I loved seeing him as a Headmaster in Mawdryn Undead in the early 80’s … going to that school would have been awesome.

  • John Campbell

    Truly a great loss.

I loved his reactions to the unrelenting assault of multiple Doctor’s in “The Three Doctors”.

I will heft a pint later in his honor.
