Monster of the Day #161

This might be from Rankin Bass’s The Year Without a Santa Claus, but I honestly can’t remember.

Ah, the classic battle between evil and the narrator!

  • it’s from this:

pitch is one of the most recognizably dumb looking characters in cinema history…

  • Reed

Just watched the MST3K episode with this movie. Netflix is adding a ton of MST3K episodes to their streaming service; it seems like I’m finding new ones every day. I never watched the show when it was on TV, so it’s all new to me.

This movie was truly inexplicable. I kept thinking, “What audience did they film this for?”

  • Tork_110

Pitch wrote “Christmas Shoes.” That’s why Santa is so angry.

  • Gamera

    ‘WHO’S YOUR DADDY PITCH?!?’

‘FATHER CHRISTMAS IS YOUR DADDY!!! HO HO HO!!!’

  • Ericb

    Pitch makes Torgo look butch.

Santa is kicking ass and handing out candy canes and he is all out of candy canes.

  • Rock Baker

That’s a nice house they’re in. Huge fireplace, and look at the size of that tree!

  • roger h

@Rock, that is part of the “drama” of the film, Santa visits all the rich kids first “will he forget about poor Lupita?”

At some point after film has ended, during the “icebox moment”, you realize Santa only delivered toys to one city in Mexico. Christmas was canceled for the rest of the Christian world but, Lupita got her doll. Yeah!

I’ve only seen this one MSTed, which I guess is fitting since I’ve only seen Santa Claus vs. the Martians unMSTed. I’ve brought each to the family gatherings the past few years, but neither my sons or nephews really enjoyed either. This year I have been told to skip the holiday theme and just bring Puma Man instead, so I think I’ll just enjoy some Santa Claus craziness by my lonesome tonight.

“Ho, ho, ho, ho, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive”

  • TV’s Grady

“What is this, ‘Home Alone 3: The Quickening’?”

  • TongoRad

Just checking back in with a little bit of wisdom from tonight’s viewing: “wind-up reindeer are fiercely loyal to their masters.” Unfortunately for Pitch that seems to neutralize his whole scheme…

So, a question for those of you who have seen the unedited movie: Is Merlin even in this thing before like 90% of it is over? On MST3K it is just soooo random when he shows up at the end there, and considering everything that came before it you of course just go with it, but still it makes me wonder- he didn’t have a bigger part edited out, did he?

TongoRad said “So, a question for those of you who have seen the unedited movie: Is Merlin even in this thing before like 90% of it is over?”

Ken actually did a review of the unedited, un-MiSTed version:

And, yes, Merlin does show up earlier in the film. Also Vulcan, the Greek God of the forge. Yes, in the same movie as Santa, The Devil, and references to Jesus… Crow wasn’t kidding when he said, “This is weird theology!”

  • TongoRad

D’oh!!! Man, I should’ve known that or at least checked, fish eye no miko. Now I’ve probably incurred the wrath of Jabootu- and right before Christmas, too!

  • Yet another thing I would like to talk about is that rather than trying to match all your online degree programs on times that you finish off work (since most people are exhausted when they return), try to obtain most of your instructional classes on the saturdays and sundays and only one or two courses for weekdays, even if it means taking some time away from your saturday and sunday. This pays off because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be much more rested as well as concentrated for school work. Thanks a lot for the different recommendations I have mastered from your site.
