Monster of the Day #135

You know, I never liked the design where they drew them with mouths. This is much better.

  • Reed

So what’s your issue with Zok, anyway?

Tundra was always my favorite, but Gloop and Gleep were a close second. I used to wish that they’d have a show where Mom and Dad Herculoid come home and find Gloop and Gleep half way through digesting their incredibly annoying blond son…

    I know, creepy.

    A slime draws near! Command?

    Fight Magic
    Item Run

  • Zok is just loud and screechy, and lacks the character the other Herculoid monsters have. That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it.

  • BeckoningChasm

I liked these guys the best.

On YouTube you can find an episode “The Crystalarians” or something which has the amazing sight of Gloop and Gleep squeezing into captured uniforms to impersonate guards. Who really thought that would work?

  • BeckoningChasm

They have an interesting family dynamic on that planet, in that everyone refers to one another by given name. No one ever says “Dad” or “Son” or anything that would indicate they’re a family instead of random people living together.

  • Rock Baker

Can’t say I was ever a fan of Gloop and Gleep. Oh, they came in handy often enough to justify their being there, but I never warmed up to them. I think I didn’t like them for the same reason Ken didn’t like Zok: that noise they made. Zok I liked despite the screech. He was a flying dinosaur/dragon creature who functioned as a nobel and faithful horse. These things made weird noises with every move. I never did understand how they were able to sneak up on so many bad guys to grab them from behind.

  • The Rev.

Yeah, despite the screech, it’s hard to hate a ridable dragon with LASER EVERYTHING.

I liked the blobs, with their odd language. They could make just about anything of themselves. Of cousre, I didn’t hate any of them, as they were all great. The monsters, that is. The people were mostly to utterly useless.

  • Rock Baker

But Zandorr could slingshot a mean energy rock!

Dorno usually acted as second in command, and was often the first to spot that week’s trouble, and could pass on orders to the monsters. He was certainly a better field agent than that pesky Littlerock that was always pretending to be a mini Mightor!

And Tara, well, a leggy blonde in a sarong is never a handicap. (She was no Jan or Gravity Girl, but still.)

  • Reed

But they still have eyebrows. What do blobs need eyebrows for?

  • BeckoningChasm

Eyebrows are their sole method of indicating emotion.

  • John Campbell

Oh I remember the episode where they got in the uniforms ti impersonate th guards!

Ahhh…the good ole days of my youth…

Be right back need to yell at some kids to get off my lawn!
