Alright, everyone, argue over what is an essential watch!  WHEEEEEEE!

  • BeckoningChasm

WOW. That’s a pretty spectacular lineup.

  • zombiewhacker

The Terror? What ying-yang scheduled The Terror for a Halloween line-up? Of the all the Corman horror they could have chosen, they picked the stupidest, shoddiest, WTF crapfest of all?

I’d love to see The Raven again (Price/Karloff/Lorre/Nicholson). The Masque of the Red Death should also be a TCM Halloween staple.

  • ZW–It’s possible that they don’t have the rights to those movies. Perhaps they are currently owned by (shudder) AMC. And I don’t know, Corman didn’t really ever make bad movies much. Even The Terror has it’s moments. Yes, though, I would have stuck it earlier in the proceedings.

House on Haunted Hill and The Haunting as the climax of their four day Halloween programming, though? That’s just about perfect.

  • The Rev.

If anyone has not seen The Walking Dead, they owe it to themselves to see it Saturday. It is superb.

As for me, I owe it to myself to finally see A Bucket of Blood.

  • TongoRad

I guess it would’ve been too obvious to show Little Shop of Horrors back to back with Bucket of Blood, but still way cool nonetheless. They’re both entertaining with all of the broad humor, and the scenery chewing, and all that.

Heads up for NYC area residents: you can see The Phantom of the Opera this Saturday at 8pm at the newly renovated Lafayette Theater in Suffern, NY, complete with accompaniment on the Wurlitzer. Odds are 50/50 I’ll make it, but that’s not for lack of interest.

  • BT

Anyone have any thoughts on “Frankenstein Must be Destroyed”?

  • Rock Baker

That’s one Hammer Frankenstein I’ve never seen! Why, oh why couldn’t they have shown it a few years earlier when I still had TCM?! And they’re showing Frankenstein Created Woman the same night! I haven’t seen it either! Argh!

House on Haunted Hill. Halloween just wouldn’t be complete without it!

  • zombiewhacker

Speaking of House on Haunted Hill, Rifftrax is doing a live show on Thursday night, with Mike, Kevin, and Bill broadcasting to movie theaters across the country.

    @Ken

TCM does, or at least did have the rights to Red Death. They showed it on Halloween night two years ago, with Robert Osborne delivering his usual interesting trivia (Paul McCartney was on the set of Red Death at least once because shooting was done in England and he was dating Jane Asher at the time.)

As to The Raven… dunno. It’s very hard to find on DVD now (Netflix offers it on streaming video but even they don’t have it to rent on DVD.)

  • ZW–You may well be right, but channels buy the rights of many films for only a limited amount of time, so films TCM had access to two years ago may no longer be theirs to show.

Of course, if they are owned by Ted Turner, as many films are, then they have the rights permanently.

  • Rock Baker

What’s Little Girl who Lived Down the Lane? Is that like an Old Hollywood ghost movie I’ve never seen, a Hammer or William Castle flick I haven’t seen, or some 70s drive-in movie I’ve never seen? (Ever notice how many horror movies have titles that would fit an X-rated movie? And Vice Versa?)

  • Rock — It’s a thriller with young teen Jodie Foster menaced by creepy pedophile Martin Sheen. I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I recall it being pretty good.

  • zombiewhacker

    @Rock

Debatable as to whether Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane even deserves to be called a horror movie. More of a suspense thriller, really.

It’s a Jodie Foster movie, shot back in her pre-teen/early teen years.

To give away any plot details would be to spoil it. Suffice to say Foster plays a very independent 12 year old girl who becomes the obsession of the town pedophile, played by Martin Sheen.

As to the rest… well, you’ll have to tune in.

  • zombiewhacker

By the way, Ken, which movie on that list jazzes you the most?

I’m always glad to see The Haunting, and in prime time to boot!

  • Rock Baker

Hmmmmm…. Sounds like it could be really good, or it could be really creepy. Sheen usually gives a good performance, so I guess I could gamble on it. If and when it crosses my path, that is.

  • fish eye no miko

The Rev. said “As for me, I owe it to myself to finally see A Bucket of Blood.”

    Yes. Yes you do.

Is Rebecca really a horror film?

The Other. Holy crap, the end of that film is fucked up. Seriously. This isn’t the Nicole Kidman film (which I also rather like), it’s a film about some really disturbed twin boys. To say any more would spoil it for you.
