Monster of the Day #107

Well, you’ve got to ‘hand’ it to him.  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

  • Not-So-Great Cthulhu

I… have absolutely no idea who this is. I feel shame.

  • This was a spectacularly great movie. And this particular scene is a gift that keeps on giving. I mean first we are horrified because we think it was the guillotined murderer, brought back from the grave. But THEN we recognize who it is, and realize that he is, in fact stark raving mad, willing to go to any lengths to ruin the mind and life of his victim. Wow what a show. It might be my favorite Peter Lorre movie ever.

  • John Campbell

Having thusly confesses my shame at having not an iota of an idea who this is, please tell us!

I could easily see this villain in any modern movie.

  • Charles Goodwin

It’s Doctor Gogol, from Mad Love, a.k.a. The Hands of Orlac, Peter Lorre’s first American film. I agree with Mr. Petersen, a terrific movie!

  • BeckoningChasm

I could easily see this villain in any modern movie.

Yeah, he’d fit right in with Hellboy.

  • Rock Baker

Crackerjack stuff! I make it a point to watch Mad Love every year around halloween. It has a perfect look and feel for the season.

My very first glimpse of this flick was clips used in promos for TNT’s 100% Weird, but I believe I actually first saw the whole movie on Monstervision.

  • I love ‘Mad Love’! Its Peter Lorre at his Peter Lorre-est.

  • Halloween? You’re nuts, Rock. I watch it for Valentine’s Day.

  • Rock Baker

Ah, but then when would I watch My Bloody Valentine?

  • David Fullam

I would love that to be my Halloween costume. God that is great!
